I Can’t Do That, and That’s Awesome

As a child, I only particpated in one activity after school. Tae Kwon Do was my only option simply because my mother also did it. Other girls did ballet, girl scouts, gymnastics, sports, and so many other different things. Not to say that there was anything wrong with martial arts as a girl, but it was never my cup of tea. I was just happy to be involved in something outside of our church as it was not the safest environment. When I became a teenager, I was allowed to expand into dance, theatre, and choir. The only catch…. I had to pay for it. Fine by me, I worked my ass off for it. I swore when I began having children, I would let them try everything.

I signed my children up for every trial class, let them try each seasonal activity they asked for at their schools, and the only requirement was they had to finish the season if they started. Make a commitment, follow through. My teenager has done at least one season or course of basketball, cross country, track, ballet, swimming, girl scouts, BSA, choir, tap, guitar, and cheer. She is now in drama and going to state finals in gymnastics. She just had a choir concert, and has a beautiful voice. My son is in his third year of cub scouts and has tried over six different trial classes. Unfortunately, sensory issues have held him back, but they will not forever! My youngest is only in the first grade and has already done girl scouts and nearly a year of gymnastics.

Besides all these classes, clubs, and activities that they are beyond excelling in, they can all whistle, roll their tongues, cross their eyes, roll their r’s, do flips on the trampoline, and a million other things! How awesome are these kids. I know these seem like simple things, but Mommy can’t do these things! My kids can do so many things that Mommy CAN’T!

To my children, the fact that Mommy can’t do something is crazy. I should be able to do everything in this world. My six year old even said she did not believe that I couldn’t whistle. She said,” Mommy doesn’t want us to feel bad because she is a better whistler than us.” The concept that I am incapable of even the smallest thing was so beyond her grasp. Do my children believe that I truly am Wonder Woman simply because they have never seen Gal Gadot and myself in the same room at the same time? (despite the slight weight difference yeah right)

I was truly amazed and flattered. The fact that mother’s and fathers can be held on such a high pedestal can only mean we are doing something right. Even scarier thought, we seriously better watch our p’s and q’s! These kids are watching us! Aside from the fact that for the moment in my children’s eyes, I am the most powerful person in the world, how wonderful is it that my kiddos can do things that I can’t?

As parents, we want our children to be and do better than ourselves. No matter the accomplishment great or small, so long as they surpass us and have a happy life, it is a blessing! I am watching my girls twirl and fly on these bars in this gymnasium as I type. I could not hold a candle to their capabilities. Knowing my son’s math and computer skills, I will always be asking for his help. They haven’t even left the nest, and already they are blowing right past me. It’s a beautiful thing. Parenting is so sweet and sour.Right now at this second, it’s like honey.

That should not be difficult, since the government makes it necessary that you are allowed to get one free of charge copy of the credit report on a yearly basis. You just have to check with the right folks. You can either look into the website for the Federal Trade Commission or perhaps contact one of the leading credit agencies immediately.
