I would read them here, there, and everywhere…..

There is nothing like sitting in your kiddos bed, snuggled next to each oither, and reading a bedtime story. I love reading to my kids. I also get the love returned as they grow older and read to me. If I had a nickel for every bedtime story, I would probably still be shopping at WalMart, but I would buy the $12 leggings instead of the $5 ones. I love being creative with reading as well. I make funny voices, yell the sound effects, and even sometimes elaborate on the words.

There have been many series’ and types of books over my many years of parenting. Babysitter’s Club, Wishbone, Pete the Cat, Give a something a something, but my favorite one is Dr. Seuss. One of my top picks is And to Think I Saw It on Mulberry Street.

Thanks to many people trying to make a few bucks by going over and beyond the idea of “woke”, some of the classic Dr. Seuss books including my favorite, has been cancelled. The titles now suddenly deemed racist and inappropriate are as follows:

1.And to Think I Saw It on Mulberry Street

2. If I Ran the Zoo

3. McElligott’s Pool

4. On Beyond Zebra

5. Scrambled Eggs Super

6. The Cat’s Quizzer

Now I cannot speak to all these titles, but one imparticular I do know is Mulberry Street. It is about a young boy who everyday goes to school and sees the most mundane and ordinary things. With his young imagination (one thing many children lack these days), he creates elaborate and whimsical changes to the everyday sights in order to entertain his father. NOWHERE NOWHERE NOWHERE in this story could anything be seen as racist or inappropriate in my opinion. Unless………. you want to make it that way.

Dr. Seuss had an amazing way of creating made up words, names, places, animals, skin colors, and people all in the name of relativity. In fact, the most controversial thing anyone could bring up is that the Whos of Whoville celebrated Christmas. I find it difficult to believe that in such a blank comparison to reality, anyone could find any part of a Dr. Suess book offensive.

Companies, people, and organizations are all committing the crime of using people’s opinions and indifferences to make a profit. I feel as though they are cancelling or changing simply to say “Hey! Look I am doing something. You should support me or my product because I am simply making up stuff to stay relevant in the world.” In reality, these companies are making themselves look like fools.

During a week celebrated almost everywhere, in honor of Dr. Seuess and his contributions to the world, they are cancelling his works because now they claim he was a racist person? How far is too far? How far does it have to go before everyone realizes that these changes are not genuine.
